Free Lesson Month - June 2004
By David La Pour

As WP golf students come to our golf schools and take private lessons one of the very first things the instructors do is interview the student. Each golf club has an interview form that has some basic but important questions like:
 • What is your golf history?
 • If you have a history how would you rate your game?
 • Do you have any physical limitations?
 • What are your short-term goals (what would you like to get out of today's lesson)?
 • What are your long-term goals?

By starting with an interview the instructor and student not only get to know each other but also start to form what we call a business plan for the students golf game. I know this may sound complicated but we feel golf commands a certain respect and thus an organizational approach before you can reach your goals. Because of the small margin of error in the game we just can't "wing it" and be consistent. The nature of the game itself puts the onus on us as golfers to behave accordingly. This is the main reason we feel strongly about a "golf" business plan. Consistency seems to be a common goal for a lot of golfers and the more organized you are in your approach to the game the more consistent you'll be on the golf course!

My suggestion is to answer the questions above and start your own business plan for your golf game. Start with small attainable goals like trying to 2 putt this year or hit more fairways with your driver, then re-assessing and practicing accordingly. Don't forget that if you want to get better at golf, practice makes permanent, good practice means improvement. So if you want to be a good putter this year practice your lag putting and not your 7-iron shots. If you'd like us to assess your golf game and give you a business plan just call one of the courses and set up a lesson. Until then have fun and I'll see you on the course!
