The Holy Grail of Golf - August 2004
By David La Pour

During my interview process with new students, consistency is the overwhelming response when asked about their short term or long-term goals. As we move through the summertime golf season, the majority of golf students should be looking for real consistency, not temporary luck. How do you acquire this elusive Holy Grail of golf? In my experience it comes from a few key components that every good/consistent golfer has. Below are some of my suggestions for a more consistent and enjoyable game:
 • Practice correctly using correct technique/mechanics (see next months tip)
 • Know your equipment and customize it if necessary
 • Behavior-use a pre-shot and post shot routine before every shot
 • Rhythm-use a specific ritual after your pre-shot routine that moves into your post shot routine

There may be a few other ways to gain consistency but the points mentioned above are universally present in good golfers. If you're not sure whether or not you have good technique, personalized equipment, good routines, or rhythm created by a ritual, you may want to schedule a lesson with one of our WP Golf Instructors. Remember, practice makes permanent. Good luck and I'll see you on the course!
